GOD IS HERE
God Is Here — Learning to Recognise His Presence Every Day
Anchor Scripture: Genesis 28:16
There is a quiet struggle many believers experience: we know God is everywhere, yet we do not always feel His presence in everyday life. It is easy to recognise God during powerful church services, answered prayers, or moments of breakthrough. But on ordinary days in the routine, the uncertainty, the waiting seasons, His presence can feel distant. The message in Genesis 28:16 gently reminds us of something deeply important: God is present even when we do not realise it.
When Jacob woke from his dream, his words were simple but powerful: “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” That moment reveals something very human. God had not just arrived; He had been there all along. Jacob simply became aware of what was already true. This shows us that the problem is not usually God’s absence but it is our lack of awareness of His presence.
Recognising God in Every Season
Many people expect God’s presence to feel dramatic or emotional all the time. When life is calm or difficult, they assume God has become distant. But Jacob encountered God in the middle of uncertainty. He was not in a comfortable place. He was alone, tired, and unsure of the future. Yet that very place became the place where God revealed Himself.
This teaches us something powerful: God is not only present in peaceful seasons; He is present in confusing ones too. He is present in moments when we feel strong and in moments when we feel weak. He is present when prayers are answered quickly and when the answer takes time. Learning to recognise God’s presence at every point in time changes how we walk through life. Instead of asking, “Where is God?” we begin to ask, “How is God working here?”
Presence Over Performance
Another lesson from this passage is the difference between having a relationship with God and simply doing works for God. Many believers try to prove their faith through activities such as serving, helping, giving, or trying to do everything “right.” While those things are important, they are not a substitute for knowing God personally.
Jacob did not meet God because of what he had done. He met God because God wanted a relationship with him. This reminds us that God’s presence is not something we earn; it is something we experience when we draw close to Him. When we focus more on our relationship with God than on our performance, our faith becomes deeper and more peaceful. We stop trying to impress God and start learning to trust Him.
Becoming More Aware of God Daily
Seeing God’s presence at every point in time requires intentional attention. It means learning to notice Him in small things — quiet moments of peace, unexpected encouragement, strength in difficult situations, and even lessons learned through challenges. The more we reflect on our lives honestly, the more we realise that God has been present more often than we thought.
Jacob named the place where he encountered God because he did not want to forget the moment. In the same way, remembering the ways God has been present in our lives helps our faith grow. Instead of focusing only on what is missing, we begin to see what God is already doing.
A Deeper Relationship with God
A deep relationship with God grows when we stop seeing Him as distant and start seeing Him as present. We need to see him as Father. Our relationship with the Father grows when prayer becomes a conversation instead of a duty. It grows when we trust Him not only in big decisions but also in everyday moments. When we realise that God is here and not just in church, not just during spiritual highs, but in every part of our lives, then our faith becomes more real and more personal.
God’s presence does not depend on perfect circumstances. It does not depend on how strong we feel or how well we think we are doing spiritually. His presence is constant. What changes is our awareness of it. The more we seek Him sincerely, the more we begin to recognise that He has never left.
Conclusion
The message in Genesis 28:16 is simple but deeply comforting: God is here. Even in seasons that feel ordinary, confusing, or uncertain, His presence remains. When we reflect on Jacob’s experience, we are reminded that faith is not only about what we do for God but about how deeply we know Him.
Learning to see God’s presence at every point in time changes how we live. It brings peace in uncertainty, strength in weakness, and confidence in the future. Instead of trying to depend only on our efforts, we begin to walk closely with God daily. And as that relationship grows, we begin to realise something powerful. We know without doubt God has been with us all along.
