Giving

Anchor Scripture: Acts 2:45

Introduction - A Believer’s Responsibility and Heart Posture

When the early disciples came together, one of their most powerful expressions of unity was how they met one another’s needs. They didn’t just preach the gospel—they lived it. The practical needs of people were not ignored but addressed because unmet needs can be a distraction from receiving the message of Christ. Everyone looked beyond themselves and gave. They were driven by a purpose greater than their possessions, which is why they were willing to sell what they had to support the community.

Giving isn't limited to money—it includes time, prayers, resources, and support. Even if we’re not in a season of financial overflow, we still have something to give. There are seasons of "just enough," but we must continue to grow, build wealth, and plan for generosity. God is never stranded, and neither should we be if we learn to steward wisely.

A Mindset of Giving

We must cultivate a mindset where possessions don’t control us. The goal is not hoarding wealth but using it as a tool for impact. There's a clear responsibility to grow wealth—not just for comfort, but so we can give. This responsibility also requires wisdom: planning finances, spending wisely, and being led by the Holy Spirit in how and when to give.

We must not confuse giving with trying to “play God” in people’s lives. Sometimes we are not meant to step in. That’s why spiritual sensitivity is key. We give to help, not to control. We give as led, so that our giving doesn’t just meet needs—it ministers.

Final Takeaways

- As believers, we are called to give.
- ?Giving won’t always be convenient—but it’s always powerful.
- ?We must build wealth to be a blessing.
- ?Give with wisdom, intentionality, and love—led by the Spirit.
- ?Jesus is our model—He gave everything for us, and we can reflect Him by doing the same for others.

Our prayer is that God will expand these truths in our hearts. May He reveal where we need to grow, help us steward resources well, and empower us to embody His purpose in the world. Amen.
