Light
Gen 1:3
Introduction
God has called us to be light — but before we can shine, we must first embrace the light ourselves. Everything God wants to do, He has already done. Our role is to step into His plans and walk in their fullness.
What does light mean to you? For Hagar, light was encountering the angel by the well. In that moment, God gave her a vision for the future and met her immediate need with water.
From the beginning, God showed the priority of light — it was His first creation in Genesis. The intensity of the light doesn’t matter; even the smallest light will always shine in darkness. And the more you allow God to use the little light within you, the brighter it will grow.
The Spirit, the Word, and Prayer
Before God spoke light into existence, His Spirit hovered over the waters. In the same way, the Spirit of God is hovering over our world today — a world covered in darkness. As believers, we carry that same Spirit, and we have the answer the world desperately needs.
Psalm 119:105 and Psalm 119:130 remind us that God’s Word is our light. There is a place of prayer and study where God’s purpose is birthed. Light comes when we combine the Word with prayer — not just head knowledge (Logos), but revelation knowledge (Rhema). We have to find the Rhema Word, and it starts from Logos — first expose yourself to the Word, then meditate on it and get the Rhema from that Word.
Expose yourself to the Word. Meditate on it until it speaks to your situation. Whatever you’re facing, prayerfully search the Scriptures until light shines on a Word that gives you direction.
Walking as Light
There’s no such thing as perfection in Christianity. We’re all at different levels in our walk with God — and that’s okay. What matters is being intentional.
- You determine the outcome of your year. Call forth what you want to see, as long as it aligns with God’s will. Being light means speaking illumination, peace, and God’s promises into existence.
- Our words shape our year. Those who are for God will speak life, while others may speak the opposite. Choose to declare only what God wants you to see come to pass.
- Dive into Scripture and declare truth. God is calling us to speak His Word boldly this year. Ensure that your words align with God’s will.
Being light is a journey, not a destination. Start small. Take baby steps. Don’t get overwhelmed. Don’t get blinded by the light. Don’t drop everything at God’s feet in frustration and stand still. Instead, walk steadily in the light He gives.
People need God, and as believers, we must be the ones to introduce Him to the world. God’s heart is always for His people.
And remember — action must accompany revelation. God may ask you to do things that seem irrational. Do them, then trust Him to deliver.
Jesus, the Ultimate Light
John 1:1–5 reveals that Jesus is the true source of light. We have Him; everyone needs Him. We can only win with Him, in Him, and through Him. The absence of Jesus is darkness, but when we walk in Him, we have life, favor, grace, wisdom, and everything needed to live victoriously.
Jesus Himself said, “I have come that you might have life, and have it more abundantly.”
Mastery over life comes through Him alone.
To be light:
- Study Jesus. Learn his patterns. Live as He would if He were physically on earth today.
- Reflect His light. People need light, and He is the light of the world.
Jesus gives us an edge in this world — let’s use it to illuminate others.
Key Takeaways
I pray we embrace light and illumination in Jesus’ name.
Two key takeaways:
- Study Jesus, learn Him, and repeat His patterns for an abundant life.
- Show Jesus clearly to the world — people need light, and He is the Light.
Let’s consciously introduce Jesus to our world.
