Politics
Esther 5 - 9
Introduction
As believers, we sometimes assume that because we have faith and God’s presence, we don’t need to follow due process. But understanding how things are done matters.
Esther understood King Xerxes — she knew what he liked, how to approach him, and when to act. She never made decisions alone but sought counsel and allowed herself to be guided by both wise people around her and the Holy Spirit.
Think about it:
- What are the odds that no one knew Esther was Jewish — or that Mordecai was her uncle?
- What are the odds that, on the very night Haman built the gallows, the king couldn’t sleep, opened the book of records, and remembered Mordecai’s loyalty?
The Jews also handled their politics wisely — they took no plunder during their victory, showing discipline and focus on purpose rather than personal gain.
We are in a peculiar season where God is taking His people into new territories, and we must understand the how. God doesn’t do coincidences; he is a very timely God. Esther knew the “how” — and that’s what unlocked divine favour.
To enjoy this kind of favour, we must be sensitive about timeliness, wisdom, and discernment matter as much as faith.
Discussion
- Esther was a willing vessel.
Mordecai understood the season and prepared her. She wasn’t in the palace to be his niece; she was there to save her people. - Mordecai was visionary.
He could read the times, was sensitive to the vision, and mobilized Esther. As a leader, you must be able to explain and sell your vision to those you lead. - Both Esther and Mordecai solved problems.
Mordecai was a man of influence and passionate about people. Esther was courageous and strategic. Together, they showed that there’s always a why, a how, and a when to every assignment. - Leadership calls for wisdom.
You must handle people differently, know what you bring to the table, and walk in discernment. God must always remain the source of your decisions.
Final Thoughts
- Don’t be rash or emotional.
- Surround yourself with the right people — those who help you recognize the authority you carry.
- Learn to leverage the Holy Spirit’s guidance in practical matters.
- God is a God of order and timing. If we want divine favour like Esther’s, we must pair our faith with wisdom, preparation, and sensitivity to His leading.
